OUR STORY

Medvin Research was established in 2008 in the greater Los Angeles area to advance the field of medicine through clinical trials. Since then, we’ve been providing patients with guidance and treatments in various specialties, including Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, and Internal Medicine.

Samy Metyas, M.D. MSc, FACR, FACP

Dr. Metyas is a board-certified physician in internal medicine and rheumatology. As a Clinical Associate Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Southern California (USC), he’s also a Medical Director at the Covina Arthritis Clinic and a president of the California Rheumatology Alliance.  

 

His education includes a Master’s Degree in orthopedic surgery and conducting clinical trials in various aspects of rheumatology. In addition to these achievements, Dr. Metyas is a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and The American College of Physicians (ACP). He has received several awards and recognition for his contributions to the field. Over the past 30 years, he has presented at many prestigious conferences and published several articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Vipul Vineet, M.B.A.

Mr. Vineet is the visionary founder of Medvin Clinical Research, whose passion for medical research is fueled by his education and real-world experience. With a Bachelor's degree in Psychobiology from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands, Vipul has had the opportunity to work as a study coordinator, project manager, and research assistant across various fields of science and psychology.

 

Under his leadership, Medvin Clinical Research has become a beacon of innovation, driving multiple areas of medical research forward. With seven clinical research sites now operating under the MedVin umbrella, Vipul and his team of experts are at the forefront of pharmaceutical and medical device research and development.

Gilbert F. Gelfand, M.D., FACP, FACR

Whittier, California

 

Dr. Gelfand is a board-certified rheumatologist with over 30 years of experience caring for patients in Whittier and Southeast Los Angeles. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Keck School of USC and a Chief of Rheumatology at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, a teaching hospital affiliated with USC.

 

Dr. Gelfand is highly experienced in the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis and is a Certified Clinical Densitometrist (CCD). He studied medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and completed his medical training in the U.S. at Maimonides Medical Center and Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. His extensive rheumatology training was completed at the Long Island College Hospital with rotations through the Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell and the Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Gelfand speaks English and Spanish and takes great pleasure in using both languages to communicate with his patients.

Tien-I Karleen Su, M.D., FACR

Whittier, California

 

Dr. Su is a board-certified rheumatologist and a member of the ACR. She studied medicine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She completed her rheumatology fellowship at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, where she now serves as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine.

 

While at UCLA medical school, she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and has remained a member since. Dr. Su is a co-founder of Amicus Arthritis & Osteoporosis Center and a principal investigator of several clinical studies on rheumatological conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis.  She has treated Whittier and Southeast Los Angeles patients for over ten years. She’s passionate about serving these communities and sees herself practicing in this area for many more years. She speaks English, Spanish, and Mandarin.

Dan La, M.D.

Dr. La received his internal medicine and rheumatology training at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He’s now board-certified in rheumatology and has over 17 years of experience in his private practice. His office specializes in various arthritis conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriatic arthritis, gout, and bone health.

Shariar Cohen-Gadol, M.D.

Principal Investigator

Thousand Oaks, California

 

Dr. Cohen is a board-certified rheumatologist who is passionate about helping patients with complex conditions. Dr. Cohen received his undergraduate degree from The University of California San Diego with honors in 1997. He then went on to obtain his medical degree from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel through an international medical collaboration program with Columbia University in New York.

 

Dr. Cohen completed his residency in internal medicine at LAC-USC Medical Center and his fellowship in rheumatology at The University of California Los Angeles. He seeks to enhance patient care by adhering to the highest standards of medical care, while relying on cutting-edge technology and medical research. Dr. Cohen has received numerous professional awards and patient accolades for his compassionate care.

Amal Mehta, M.D.

Dr. Amal Mehta earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UCLA, a Healthcare MBA from George Washington University, and Medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Dr. Mehta completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Banner University Medical Center and his Rheumatology Fellowship at Loma Linda Medical Center. Dr. Mehta is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and has participated as an investigator in over 50 clinical trials for various rheumatic diseases.

Chandrakant Mehta, M.D.

Riverside, California

 

Dr. Mehta is an experienced rheumatologist who is dedicated to providing the best possible care for his patients. Dr. Mehta completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Easton Hospital in Pennsylvania and went on to complete his fellowship at Loma Linda University. Dr. Mehta is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, which means he has extensive training and expertise in both fields. Additionally, he has been actively involved in clinical trials for over 30 years.

Diraj Karnani, M.D.

Apple Valley, California

 

Dr. Karnani, founder of Carewell Arthritis Center, is a board-certified rheumatologist serving the High Desert area of California.  After completing his internal medicine residency at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, he completed his rheumatology fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and UCLA Harbor. He is actively part of  cutting-edge research and strives to push forward research to give patients the latest treatment options.

Christina Chen, D.O.

Covina, California

Dr. Christina Chen completed a Rheumatology fellowship from the University of Southern California (LAC+USC) after attending the Internal Medicine residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She studied at UC Berkeley graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She holds board certifications in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Her osteopathic medical degree from the Western University of Health Sciences has allowed her to take a compassionate and whole-person approach to the care of each patient. Dr. Chen has publications on fibromyalgia, small fiber neuropathy, and infectious arthritis. In addition to treating difficult cases of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, scleroderma, and beyond, her clinical areas of interest also include ultrasound for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Dr. Chen has completed additional training through the Ultrasound School of North American Rheumatologists (USSONAR) and is also a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
